Morning Stan |
| Stan |
Morning |
| Bruce |
How are things up in Michigan this morning? |
| Stan |
Cold. No snow. Still tired and achy |
| Bruce |
My daughter in MN continually comments on how strange this winter has been. |
| Stan |
Yes, this has been a strange winter. I'll take it. |
| Bruce |
We are wet again ... one of the wettest winters on record, but very mild with nights in the 40s and 50s and days in the 60s. |
| TerryW |
Hello |
| Bruce |
Morning Terry and David |
| David |
Good Morning Bruce and Stan |
| Stan |
Hi, David, Terry. |
| David |
Hi Terry |
| Bruce |
Terry, do you have any snow yet? |
| TerryW |
Bruce, still trying to get used to outlook |
| TerryW |
No snow |
| TerryW |
having problems with the address book |
| Bruce |
I don't use it except on the server. I use Thunderbird and really like it. |
| TerryW |
I have almost got everything back up & running |
| TerryW |
WHo here has a Sams club membership |
| Bruce |
I was really lucky when I lost my hard drive. The mirror image I had on the external drive reloaded on the new drive without a hiccup. Everything worked perfect. |
| Stan |
Wife does. |
| David |
We do not have a membership, why? |
| Bruce |
We do, why? |
| TerryW |
If you are a member Sams club has a tech support number here in the USA that provides members with tech support on their PC even if they did not buy it from them |
| TerryW |
They are great techs |
| TerryW |
877 758-4346 |
| Stan |
I am my own tech support |
| Bruce |
CostCo has a similar tech service, but you have to buy it from them. They are quite good and also offer another years warranty on all computers and TVs. |
| Bruce |
Stan, you need a 1-800 number ... |
| TerryW |
they resolved a couple issues I had and were very friendly & knew their stuff |
| Stan |
No I don't. Enough people call me already. |
| Bruce |
We are getting ready to go 21st Century by adding a tablet and router. I sure hope it isn't too complicated to set up the router. |
| David |
It is good to know there is "Stan the Tech man" on the chats |
| TerryW |
Bruce is that mirror recover a program that you bought |
| Bruce |
Yes, Acronis True Image was worth the money. |
| Bruce |
It performed flawlessly. |
| Stan |
Ethernet ot wireless, they are pretty easy to set up. Just me require a call to your ISP |
| David |
I set up our wireless router with out too much difficulty quite a few years ago and we have replaced the computer three times without any trouble so you should be OK |
| TerryW |
Bruce adding a router is fairly easy, With the software that comes with it it pretty much sets up itself |
| TerryW |
also the pads do |
| Bruce |
My wife wants a tablet so she doesn't have to wait for me to get off the computer to use it for emails. |
| TerryW |
same here for me |
| Stan |
Tell them to go to the library. : ) |
| David |
Do any of you use an eReader? I love to read books and friends have been encouraging me to get one |
| TerryW |
we have 2 pads, we sit on the couch and now talk to each other thru them LOL what's this world coming to? |
| Bruce |
I was reading several articles on routers and also looked at Amazon ratings for routers. It is confusing to a non-tech guy, but 802.11"n" is what I need with WP2 and IPv6 capability if possible. |
| TerryW |
no david |
| Bruce |
David, I use a Kindle and love it. |
| TerryW |
I have always used a Linksys |
| David |
Lynksys the router we have as well |
| Bruce |
I found that I enjoy reading from the Kindle more than from a book. |
| Bruce |
It sure is nice to take with you when shopping. |
| TerryW |
I hope Angela remembered |
| Bruce |
What model Linksys do you guys have? I heard that since Cisco bought them that the quality has not been there. ??? |
| David |
Thanks Bruce, I am going to look into the options it may be time to take that next step into the "high-tech" life. |
| TerryW |
I have an older model G-series |
| TerryW |
I think the latest is N |
| Bruce |
ebook prices have gone up unfortunately, but there are still a lot of free and lower cost books. Soon, our library will allow you to rent library books on your Kindle. That will be neat. |
| David |
Mine is a Wireless G Broadband Router 2.4 GHz |
| Bruce |
I found it interesting that in 2010, ebook sales were greater than regular books. It just shows how the world is changing. |
| David |
We were at the Hamilton County Ohio library yesterday and they had a sign stating that they had over 19,000 eBooks available so that will be something to consider |
| Bruce |
Yes, David, the process is so simple. I like the Kindle, but I heard the Nook is quite good also. |
| David |
I have also looked at the Sony reader, it claims to be ad free |
| Bruce |
My Kindle has the built in 3G network. |
| Bruce |
My PC is 3 years old and recently I contacted Dell Support about upgrading to Win 7. The tech told me to wait and buy a new computer first with Win 7 akready added. He said three year old PCs are antiquated. |
| TerryW |
I have got to go get ready, we have someone coming to do a deep house cleaning. I have got to go shower before she gets here |
| TerryW |
nice chatting |
| Bruce |
David, I also have several friends that have Kindles and they all love it. The text to speech is nice. |
| Stan |
See ya |
| Bruce |
Stan, did you read my blog article for Friday? |
| David |
I had resisted for years upgrading to a new PC at home because I did not like the new office software and operating systems we had to use at work. Then last month we made the jump to a Window 7 machine with the Intel i7 processor. The increased speed and ease of use has been worth the new learning curve |
| Stan |
I glanced at it, Bruce. |
| Bruce |
I like Office 2010. It is easy and powerful. |
| David |
Bruce I have not read your blog, what is the subject? |
| Stan |
I update and change when, if I need to, as I can afford to. |
| Bruce |
It is a little different. It was about the five most regrets people on their death beds discuss. |
| Bruce |
It was fascinating to me because three hit home and made me really think. |
| David |
I should have mentioned that I took advantage of a special sale at Staples, the computer was about $700, much less than any of our prior new PC purchases |
| Bruce |
People wished they wouldn't have worked so hard and spent more time with family and friends. People wished they would have been more true to themselves versus trying to live up to others' expectations. |
| Bruce |
I believe most everyone waits for the sales because there are so many. |
| David |
I will check it out later today. By the way to prove my lack of tech skills. I cannot seem to figure out how to leave a comment on your blog, I guess I do not know what the various sign-in options mean. |
| Stan |
I've been thinking about that, Bruce. Can't say I have any regrets ( legal ones) |
| Bruce |
If you want, David, you can send me an email and I can post it as anonymous. |
| Bruce |
That is good Stan. |
| Stan |
Hey, Luis. What it be? |
| Bruce |
We are now the four musketeers again |
| David |
OK I will do that Bruce. The most recent one had me remembering time with my Grandfather who must have had KD but was told he had ALS |
| loshimo11 |
Good morning everyone. This is loshimo11 joining in late from San Francisco. |
| loshimo11 |
Big crowd.... |
| Bruce |
We had dozens on earlier, but when they saw Luis wasn't on they dropped off. |
| Stan |
lol |
| loshimo11 |
:} |
| Bruce |
Luis, we were talking high tech stuff today ... PCs routers Win7 etc. |
| David |
Hi Ted |
| Bruce |
Morning Ted A |
| Bruce |
TedA, did you get your new chair yet? |
| Bruce |
It appears Ted is having trouble this morning staying connected. |
| Bruce |
Well, guys, on January 17, I became a great grandfather. Chase Thomas is a healthy young boy. |
| Stan |
Congrats! |
| loshimo11 |
Congratulations Bruce!!!! |
| David |
Congrats Bruce on that new little one!!! |
| TedA |
Yes I am having some trouble. Nothing that I can not handle! |
| Bruce |
My sister calls me a living medical miracle since I am only 39 and now a great grandfather. |
| Bruce |
TedA, did you get your new chair yet? |
| Bruce |
I don't know about you, but the older I get the more precious the little ones are. They are our future! |
| TedA |
Yes I did. It is an e-fix, a manual wheel chair with power hub wheels, a battery and a joy stick. |
| MikeG |
Kennedy's Disease Chat |
| David |
HI Mike |
| Stan |
Hi, Mike |
| Bruce |
TedA, well, how do you like it? |
| MikeG |
Howdy everyone |
| loshimo11 |
Hi Mike. |
| Bruce |
Mike, we needed you earlier, we were talking high tech stuff. You and Stan could have blown us away with your knowledge. |
| MikeG |
probably not... :) |
| MikeG |
congrats on the baby Bruce! |
| Bruce |
Remember that February 29 is Rare Disease Day. |
| Bruce |
Thanks everyone. |
| MikeG |
I've been trying to install the new WebRoot Complete... :( |
| MikeG |
what a joke! |
| David |
Well at least you know what it is and am not even sure why you would want one. |
| loshimo11 |
Is that some type of gardening tool? |
| Bruce |
Luis, I love your sense of humor. |
| TedA |
It is nice. More comfortable and manuverable than the scooter. I stll have my big power chair which I use at home. |
| Bruce |
TedA, I guess you don't need a power lift seat. I couldn't function very well without mine. |
| MikeG |
in case everyone has not heard - Jon Lickey fell and broke his shoulder... :( |
| Bruce |
That is terrible news! |
| loshimo11 |
Broken shoulders are no fun... |
| MikeG |
and Len Janicki had a reaction to a drug he was given for a uniary tract infection. |
| TedA |
I have it on my big chair and it is very useful at home as I get up and down a lot. The scooter and e-fix are lighter weight and easier to take places. I also only get up 1 or 2 times. One being when I load it back on the rear lift to put it in the van. |
| Bruce |
BTW, is Len recovering okay? |
| MikeG |
I heard he was better but having a hard time transferring |
| Bruce |
Morning Fergior |
| Bruce |
How is the weather in Spain today? |
| Bruce |
Arm strength is very important. I can't imagine how difficult it would be without being able to use your arm around the house. |
| fergior |
Hi all |
| fergior |
I am late, pardon |
| Bruce |
Better late than never |
| fergior |
yes |
| loshimo11 |
What time is in Spain now? |
| MikeG |
John Coakley suggested a pivot ring for Len - but it may not be large enough for him to stand on... he said he's bow-legged. |
| David |
Hi Fergior glad you could join us |
| fergior |
no |
| TedA |
Bruce, also they put the biggest size wheels and the thickest seat cushion to get me as high as possible to make it as easy as possible to satnd up |
| Bruce |
What is a pivot ring? |
| MikeG |
it's a ring you stand on when transferring from the char to a recliner. |
| fergior |
I had in last May an heart attack |
| Bruce |
Okay, that would diffinetly help. My old chair had several custom options to raise the seat height for me also. |
| Bruce |
How are you recovering Fergior |
| MikeG |
Len said he can't turn anymore - and Jeanne can't handle him. |
| fergior |
now, ifeel fine, but they had to make me a surgery |
| fergior |
Traqueostomie |
| Bruce |
Wow, that is too bad. I have seen a lift advertised that actually lifts you from the sitting position to the standing and visa versa. |
| Bruce |
Good to hear you recovered okay. |
| MikeG |
yes, but it was too big for some of their rooms |
| fergior |
yes, thank you the raqueotomy fot me, now is a life security |
| fergior |
no pronlems whith breath |
| Bruce |
I feel for Len. My brother, late 70s with KD, is having real problems with his strength and needs one person on each arm to stand, shift, move, etc. |
| MikeG |
yep |
| MikeG |
that's really hard to take |
| Bruce |
Good to hear Fergior. You need to take care of yourself. |
| fergior |
Bruce, thats is my actualsituatión at 63,s |
| MikeG |
Jeanne has hired someone to help him get around |
| Bruce |
It is hell to get old! |
| loshimo11 |
Getting old is not for wimps... |
| MikeG |
but it's better than the alternative... maybe. |
| Bruce |
Fortunately, at 39 I don't have to worry about it for several years.lol |
| MikeG |
right!!! :) |
| Stan |
I got at least 10 more years. |
| Bruce |
I consider quality of life an important factor in the equation. |
| MikeG |
definitely |
| fergior |
I move in electric Wheelchair since 1999 |
| MikeG |
well, it's a beautiful day in FL - 75 going to 84 today! Spring has sprung here... |
| Bruce |
Fergior, yes, there a several of us that use a chair for safety and mobility issues. |
| MikeG |
gotta run - take care everyone! |
| David |
I think Angela mentioned that KD'er are a stubborn lot and I think that helps with the getting old |
| Bruce |
Thanks for joining us Mike |
| David |
Bye Mike |
| Stan |
Sure, rub it in, Mike |
| fergior |
In Madrid now at 17,23 -4ºC |
| loshimo11 |
Take care Mike. |
| Bruce |
Boy, that is an insult ... but so true! |
| David |
Yes but she said it with a smile |
| Bruce |
I think it goes back to the fact that KD is a slowly progressive disorder. We have time to adjust. |
| TedA |
Bye everyone. Stay up right! |
| Bruce |
Thanks TedA |
| TedA |
Connection reset by peer |
| Stan |
OK. See you all later. Take care. |
| loshimo11 |
Time for breakfast here in the West coast. Stay safe and upright everyone!!!! |
| Bruce |
I know there are days when the body just does not want to work right and that becomes frustrating. |
| fergior |
bye at all |
| Bruce |
Take care Stan |
| David |
I agree with the time to adjust and am still leaning each day what it means to adapt to what for me is a new reality |
| Bruce |
Take care Luis |
| Bruce |
Yes, that is the reality of the situation. Adjust, evolve or perish. |
| David |
Well gents it looks like our time today is almost at an end. It has been good chatting with you. Until next time, take care and be safe. |
| Bruce |
I still think back on what people with KD experienced 50 or a 100 years ago. It must have been hell. |
| David |
You are right about that Bruce, the not knowing what it was and why would have been very difficult and trying |
| Bruce |
My uncle lived on a farm with three stories and steps everywhere. |
| David |
My grandfather was a postman and to give up working was a great trial to him. But he also showed me that adapting was just part of life |
| Bruce |
David, thanks for joining us today. Stay well and upright. |
| David |
Bye Bruce |
