Compared to families in the literature our family was so unique
that we felt the syndrome had not been previously recognized.
We presented our paper at the AAN annual meeting in 1966 and
published it in NEUROLOGY in 1968.
Dr. DeJong, as editor, reviewed the paper and made some
kind comments (he also asked that the paper be shortened).
It was amazing to me that in one year I had met all four
neurologists who founded our AAN.
I interviewed for a job with Dr. Frank Forester at Wisconsin, and
worked for Dr. Abe Baker at MN. These families led to contact
With the other two, Dr Adolph Sahs, IA and Dr. Russel DeJong, MI.
Three of my former teachers, Drs Millikan, Mulder
and Brown and my boss (Dr. Baker) had seen members of the
families and Dr. Brown recognized the unique features,
but was without the family history.
It was a honor when the paper was republished
as part of a “golden anniversary series” in the February 1998
