Walking on toes, hopping, squat and rise

were all impossible.

Reaching overhead and heel walk were moderately weak.

The biceps reflex was depressed;

other muscle stretch reflexes were absent.

There was generalized muscle weakness, worse proximally.

Fasciculations were generalized including chin muscles.

The Tongue was grooved and atrophic

with a white coating.

There was marked facial weakness with protrusion of lips; but

George could smile.
